Doyle vows fight for Chrysler, GM plants - Houston Business Journal:

Doyle said that the managementof Detroit-based GM, whichb Monday filed for Chapter 11 reorganization, has publicluy confirmed that the now-shuttered Janesville plant is one of threse plants being considered to manufacture small cars in the future. The Janesville plant had more than 1,200 employeews who assembled pickup trucksand SUVs, vehicles for which deman has plummeted during the receng era of high gas prices.
The governod also said that Chrysler's 850-employee engine plant in Kenosha, whicu is slated to be closed underdthat automaker's reorganization under bankruptcy, won'rt be sold, leaving the possibility that Chrysler'ws new partner, the Italian auto manufacturer could acquire the plant. Fiat is expected to begih producing cars in the United Statess under its partnership withAuburm Hills, Mich.-based Chrysler. Doyle said in a statement that his administratioj will focus on making those possibilitiesa reality. "My staff, the leadership teams and I have continuallty been working at thehighest levels, including the Whitde House, to fight for Janesville and Doyle said.
